On November 21, 1963 the United States had already deported 16,000 troops to support and train the South Vietnam Army. The Marines in Dogfight had a romantic notion of the war they were about to become apart of. While they are uneasy, they felt that this war would be quick, easy, and celebrated. Bridlace is the only Marine we see in Dogfight realize the reality of the Vietnam War. The following resources provide a view into what the Vietnam War actually was and the legacy it left behind.
